A week of landscape painting
Whether you are a beginner or advanced: Juliane works with you individually, shows you the techniques and tricks of the great masters, and opens your eye to the landscape and to your own creative power.
We draw, paint, analyse pictures and discuss our work together every day. You go home with small paintings, a sketchbook full of ideas and new knowledge. In between there is time for walks, landscape and culture — autumn leaves and monasteries like Banz and Vierzehnheiligen in Franconia, villages, pool and boule in Provence.
A week full of art, good living and inspiration — in a warm, creative group.
Juliane von Kunhardt
Juliane von Kunhardt is a trained designer and has worked as a freelance artist for over 30 years, exhibiting internationally in the USA and Europe. Her work joins line and colour, shaped by a formal language that keeps evolving.
She works across a wide range of painting and printmaking disciplines — gouache, oil, ink, pastel, etching, offset lithography. As a teaching artist she cares about clarity of composition, craft, and the connection to art history.

Four fixed points, the rest follows
One or two talks a day
Juliane takes on one subject — grey and tonal values, the green of trees, blue in sky and clouds, composition and perspective. Practice follows straight away.
Step by step into the open
Into the landscape, the village, the market, with sketchbook and easel — more and more often as the week goes on. Plein air is the supreme discipline: we work towards it rather than starting with it.
The critique
At the end of the day the work hangs side by side and is discussed together. In our experience this part is especially popular — and it is where you learn the most.
One or two excursions
Every retreat includes one or two excursions during the week. The destinations are still to be decided — each will be a beautiful, historic place where you can also paint.
